The Indian Army’s Operation Akhand Prahar marks a major stride in the country’s push toward modern, multi-domain warfare. Conducted in the deserts of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, the large-scale exercise demonstrates India’s readiness to operate seamlessly across land, air, and digital battlefields. The operation comes under the umbrella of the tri-services Exercise Trishul, underscoring the Indian military’s emphasis on jointness, technology, and self-reliance in defence preparedness.
Overseen by Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, the exercise involved new formations like the RUDRA Brigade — a multi-domain task force created to execute high-intensity operations integrating air power, ground manoeuvres, and advanced battlefield technologies. The drills featured the coordinated use of tanks, mechanised infantry, artillery, helicopters, drones, and counter-drone systems — all working in unison to simulate a realistic, high-threat environment.
Operation Akhand Prahar is more than a display of firepower; it represents a paradigm shift in India’s defence thinking. The exercise focuses on the “JAI” principles — Jointness, Atmanirbharta (self-reliance), and Innovation — signalling the Army’s transition from traditional force structures to technology-driven warfare. The presence of indigenous platforms, surveillance systems, and AI-enabled logistics highlighted India’s growing ability to sustain complex operations without heavy foreign dependence.
The operation’s location in the western theatre holds deep strategic meaning. The desert terrain mirrors the conditions along the India–Pakistan border, providing a real-world testing ground for rapid mobilisation, inter-branch coordination, and precision strikes. In addition, the exercise validated the Army’s preparedness to respond swiftly to cross-border contingencies while maintaining full integration with the Indian Air Force and Navy.
Military observers describe Operation Akhand Prahar as a transformative milestone for India’s armed forces — a glimpse into the next generation of warfare where mobility, data, and coordination will be as crucial as firepower. By blending traditional combat readiness with futuristic doctrines, the exercise reinforces India’s resolve to stay prepared across every domain — land, air, sea, space, and cyber.
As India continues its journey toward self-reliance in defence, Operation Akhand Prahar stands as a testament to how strategy, technology, and joint leadership are shaping a new era of Indian military strength — one where the nation’s security rests on both its soldiers and its systems.
